ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS
COMPLETED

Project reviews completed from March 15 to April 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.

Eldon Hazlet State Park

62866 - This project will entail the mechanical dredging of the courtesy dock area in the cove to the south of the new cabins at the park. Approximately 2,300 cubic yards of material will be removed and trucked to a spoil area where the material will be dried and spread over the adjacent farm field. Project was submitted for review on 2-18-99.

Sangchris Lake State Park

63858 - This project provides for electrical improvements within the Deer Run Campground at the site. Development items include new primary and secondary electrical service, new load center facilities, new transformers/electric panels, trenching, site security lighting and seeding of disturbed areas. Project was submitted for review on 3-15-99.

Region 5 Office

63496 - This project will expand the existing parking lot at the Regional Office in Benton. The new spaces will be provided by widening the existing service drive on the north side of the office building. The new area will be approximately 60' x 25' in size. Project was submitted for review on 3-10-99.

Hennepin Canal

This project involves rehabilitation work on aqueduct #6 and will include: cleaning and painting of support members, replacement of deteriorated steel, replacement of cracked and spalled concrete on the piers and abutments, application of a silicon sealer, removal of debris from the stream, and the addition of erosion protection of the abutments. Project was submitted for review on 3-11-99.

Rock Cut State Park

63151 - This project entails the construction of 2000 ft. of new trail in the north part of the park. The new trail will be 10 ft. wide. Project was submitted for review on 2-25-99.

William W. Powers

63775 - This project provides for the construction of a 20' x 28' picnic shelter in an existing day use area within the park. The shelter will be connected to the existing parking lot by a new accessible sidewalk. Project was submitted for review on 3-10-99,

Clinton Lake

63501 - This project includes the installation of one set of the new standard play equipment. The new equipment will have a sidewalk necessary in order to make it accessible for use by children with disabilities. This equipment will replace old unsafe equipment. Project was submitted for review on 3-11-99.

Rock Cut State Park

63495 - This proposed project will construct a containment pond approximately 30' in diameter and 3' high to retain the treated waste water per EPA's directions. This structure will be removed and the area restored when the park is tied into the regional sewer system. Project was submitted for review on 3-8-99.

Hindsboro Wildlife Area

63492 - This project will reestablish a drained wetland by constructing a low earthen mound at the lower end of the historic wetland. A water control structure and overflow will be incorporated into the proposed berm. Project was submitted for review on 3-4-99.

Illinois Caverns

62971 - This project involves the construction of a new 28' x 20' picnic/interpretive shelter at the site. Construction items include: site grading and drainage improvements, a 20' x 40' concrete floor, 150' of concrete sidewalk, and landscaping. Project was submitted for review on 2-22-99.

Beall Woods

63153 - A local fire protection district has requested permission to install a dry hydrant at the site to assist in fire suppression needs in the immediate area. The hydrant will be located near the existing boat ramp in a day use area and occupy less than 1/40 of an acre. Project was submitted for review on 2-25-99.

I & M Canal

63157 - This project will entail the installation of three 54" waterlines under the canal. Two lines will be installed by directional bore and one line will be installed by open cut in an existing access road. Water will be brought from Lake Michigan and serve customers in Will County. Project was submitted for review on 3-1-99.

Matthiessen State Park

61305 - This project consists of the construction of a new play equipment package that will be approximately 35' x 60' in size at the site. The work will also require 100' of 5' wide concrete sidewalk. Project was submitted for review on 12-22-98.

Des Plaines

63493 - One of two new vault toilets in the campground needs to be relocated to make room for accessible camp pads. The new vault toilet will be built east of a pair of existing vault toilets that are to be demolished. Project was submitted for review on 3-5-99.

Per Marquette State Park

62864 - This project entails the replacement of the existing sewage system along the road through the Camp Potawatomi area. Approximately 150' of new discharge line and 300' of secondary electrical service will be required. Project was submitted for review on 2-18-9
