ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS COMPLETED
Project reviews completed from March 15 to April 15 are listed below.
These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review
process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species,
and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process
it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum
and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for
significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and
may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered
Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands
Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.
- Rock Cut State Park
0201903 - This project involves the installation of approximately 7920'
of replacement fencing along the south boundary of the park from Perryville
Rd. to McFarland Rd. to eliminate unauthorized access points created
by mountain bikers and hikers from nearby subdivisions. Two maintenance
gates and one walk through gate will be installed. Project was submitted
for review on 3-27-02.
- Kankakee River
0201956 - This project involves the expansion of Area 4 campground at
the site by constructing an access road and camp pads in the agricultural
field east of the existing camp site. Project was submitted for review
- Hennepin Canal
0201905 - With this project, the city of Colona will be constructing
a 30' wide access road on the canal property that they lease from us.
The area involved will be approximately 50' x 100' on property currently
mowed and maintained by the city. Project was submitted for review on
- Sanganois SWA
0201776 - This project will involve the construction of a 150' long
by 20' wide graveled roadway from the existing Phase I levee to the
Little Sangamon River so that access can be provided to the lower county
blind sites without hunters disturbing the Ash Swale refuge or having
to pull over the Ash Swale levee. Project was submitted for review on
- Beaver Dam State Park
0201700 - This project involves the rebuilding of 6 class A camp pads
and retaining walls at the site. All pads will be covered and leveled
with CA 6 rock. Project was submitted for review on 3-12-02.
- Silver Springs SF&WA
0201701 - This project involves the Millbrook Fire Department installing
a 6" dry hydrant in the 1/4 acre manmade pond between Loon Lake
and the park road. The pipe level in the lake would be set at 2' below
the surface and would extend approximately 20' to the east where it
would be surrounded by bollards. Project was submitted for review on

0201702 - This project involves the installation of a monitoring well
at the site to assess surface and groundwater quality. Project was submitted
for review on 3-14-02.
- I & M Canal
0200446 - This project involves the construction of a bicycle path alongside
117 (Larkin Avenue) and over the I & M Canal and intersecting with
the Illinois & Michigan Canal State Trail. Related work items will
include the construction of a low retaining wall, railings and an extension
of a culvert. Project was submitted for review on 2-4-02.
- Kaskaskia River F&WA
0200003 - This project involves the Harrisonville Telephone Company
conducting a directional bore under Horse Creek for a distance of 416
feet to upgrade their lines in that area. Project was submitted for
review on 2-15-02.
- Jim Edgar Panther Creek SF&WA
0201119 - This project involves several improvements to the equestrian
facilities at the site. Work item include the construction of 36 horse
stalls in the existing barn along with siding and roof repair. The addition
of new fencing to create a 10 acre pasture and the construction of 2
low water creek crossings by grading an approach ramp down and up the
banks and installing a geo-web filled with gravel base flush with the
natural creek bed. Project was submitted for review on 2-15-02.
- I & M Canal
0200295 - This project involves the development of a bicycle trail on
the west side of the canal corridor from the northern property line
of the former Texaco Refinery property south to Lemont Road. Work will
include trail surface construction and relocating a prefabricated bridge
over Deep run Creek. Project was submitted for review on 1-17-02.
- Franklin Creek SNA
0201364 - This project will involve the installation of a surface drain
in the southwest corner of the equestrian arena to correct a persistent
ponding problem. Two hundred feet of 8" PVC storm drain pipe will
be laid to outlet at an aggregate drain pad. Project was submitted for
review on 3-8-02.
- Weldon Springs
0201313 - This project involves the construction of a new entrance road,
new access roads to Black Locust group camp, the tent/trailer campground
and concession and new parking areas. Additional work will include landscaping,
removal of two sections of existing road, realignment of three sections
of the campground road and the intersection with the old entrance, five
new campsites, a campground host site and a new trailer dump station.
All overhead electrical lines will be buried. Project was submitted
for review on 3-9-02.
- Castle Rock State Park
0201363 - This project will involve the rerouting of the existing Wildlife
Viewing hiking trail for approximately 700' to eliminate the need for
construction of a ling bridge over a ravine that was caused by field
runoff. Project was submitted for review on 3-8-02.
