ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS COMPLETED
Project reviews completed from November 15 to December 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.
  • Cache River State Natural Area
    0000309 - This project involves the construction of an earthen containment basin in conjunction with a nearby hydraulic dredging project. An 8' tall and 310' long dam will be constructed across a ravine immediately east of the dredging area. Once the dredging project has been completed, the containment basin will be altered so that it may serve as a permanent sedimentation basin. Project was submitted for review on 1-5-00.

  • South Shore State Park
    0108365 - This project provides for the removal of Autumn olive mechanically using a hydro-ax and follow-up herbicide treatment of stumps using Garlon 4 or Round-up. The work will be performed during January and February. Project was submitted for review on 12-12-01.

  • Ramsey Lake
    0108368 - This project provides for the removal of sediment from the north end of the lake and the use of the material to construct earthen berms on either side of the lake and extending into the lake for better shore fishing access. The large area of sediment is exposed due to the draw down of the lake for spillway repairs. Project was submitted for review on 12-5-01.

  • Ten Mile Creek SFWA
    0102748 - This project involves the construction of four shallow water wetlands from 2 to 8 acres in size located in existing agricultural fields at the site. Dams up to 8' in height will be constructed with heavy earth moving equipment at each location to impound up to a maximum of six feet of water at the dam. Project was submitted for review on 4-19-01.

  • Ten Mile Creek SFWA
    0102771 - As with the above work four wetland units will be created using a levee disk to create levees up to 3' in height and impounding a maximum of 2' of water at the dam site. Project was submitted for review on 4-19-01.

  • Illinois Beach State Park
    0105265 - This project involves the construction of a new concession building, outdoor dining area, sidewalks, parking lot, and cul-de-sac terminus at the site. Project was submitted for review on 8-2-01.

  • Fort Massac State Park
    0104758 - This project involves the reconstruction of the fort to more accurately reflect the structure from around 1800. In addition, a new visitors center will be constructed with new interpretive exhibits and a/v programs. Other improvements include repairs to the existing sea wall, new sidewalks, new employee parking lot, site lighting, and a new wooden picket outline of the old French fort. Project was submitted for review on 7-10-01.

  • Des Plaines Conservation Area
    0106780 - This project involves the construction of a 25 vehicle parking lot that will provide access to Frontage Road Pond for anglers and field trial participants. The lot will have an aggregate surface. Project was submitted for review on 9-24-01.

  • Clinton Lake State Recreation Area
    0107657 - With this project three fields totaling 30 acres will be cleared of low quality woody vegetation that has invaded the area and a mixture of warm and cool season grassed will be planted to provide suitable nesting and brood cover. Project was submitted for review on 10-29-01.

  • Sangamon Valley Trail
    0107658 - This project, submitted for review 11-1-01, provides the City of Springfield an easement across the trail to install underground electrical service.

  • Hennepin Canal Parkway
    0106167 - This project includes the redecking of the tie and rail area of the old Railroad Bridge #7 to provide safe bicycle and pedestrian passage along the trail. Project was submitted for review on 8-23-01.

  • Hennepin Canal Parkway
    0107698 - This project involves an adjacent landowner running an outlet from a nearby drywell onto the Canal property and outletting into a drainage ditch that parallels the Canal. Project was submitted for review on 10-18-01.

  • Cypress Pond State Natural Area
    0107663 - The Department has just acquired an additional 734 acres that are contiguous to the original 313 acres at this site and will be developing two new access areas with parking lots. Project was submitted for review on 10-30-01.

  • Rice Lake
    0001975 - This project involves the moving of the existing pump station for Rice Lake to the old lock station on the south end of Copperas Creek road. The pump discharge pipe will be cut through the Copperas Creek access road at the existing grade. Project was submitted for review on 3-24-00.

  • Horseshoe Lake (Alexander Co.)
    0107684 - This project will provide for the construction of a 15' wide by 1800' in length access lane located on dredged spoil on the south side of Black Creek to provide access for machinery to remove log jams from the creek that are backing water up onto neighboring private property. Project was submitted for review on 10-23-01.

  • Wolf Creek
    0100393 - This project provides for the construction of 17 new IDNR standard concrete block vault toilets at the site. Concrete sidewalks will be provided with each unit along with the relocation of existing lighting and the extension of power to one location. Project was submitted for review on 1-12-01.

  • Kickapoo State Park
    0005668 - This project provides for the installation of 21 new water hydrants and drinking fountains throughout the park. Approximately 14,000' of new waterline will be required with the abandoned water treatment plant being demolished and removed from the site. In addition, 3 new picnic shelters will be constructed complete with electrical service. Project was submitted for review on 7-31-01.
