ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS
COMPLETED

Project reviews completed from December 15 to January 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.

Weinberg King State Park

60557 - This project involves the Departments compliance to federal ADA standards. To have the site meet these standards work will be done at the check stations, parking ,camping, and picnic areas, and the site office. Project was submitted on 12-2-98.

Horseshoe Lake, Madison Co.

61301 - Illinois Power Co. has requested as 15 foot easement strip north of the north ROW line of Ill. Rt. 162 for a distance of 80 feet. The land is abandoned railway property and is currently in cultivation. Project was submitted for review on 12-16-98.

Mermet Lake Fish & Wildlife Area

59379 - This project entails the removal of all buildings at the recently acquire Sielbeck Forest. The buildings are wood frame farm structures in poor condition. Two gravel parking lots will be constructed for public access to the property. Project was submitted for review on 10-16-98.

Starved Rock State Park

61303 - This project entails the construction of a 50' x 50' log style building on the site. Project was submitted for review on 12-22-98.

Walnut Point State Park

59385 - This project will install new camp pads along the existing campground road at the site. The pads will be crushed stone and no earth work will be required. Project was submitted for review on 10-22-98.

Lake Le Aqua Na State Park

61304 - This project involves the construction of a 35' x 65' play equipment package at the site. Work will require soil excavation to a depth of 12 " to be replaced by the play surface. 75' of concrete sidewalk will connect the play area to the parking lot. Project was submitted on 12-22-98.

Beaver Dam State Park

61298 - This project involves the construction of a new marsh trail starting at the south end of the marsh levee and will follow the contour of the marsh at its new water level. A small bridge will be installed at the over flow for the small pond located on the south east corner of the marsh. No excavation will be necessary. Project was submitted for review on 12-14-98.

Starved Rock State Park

57622 - This project involves the removal of an existing stand of black locust that have invaded park property adjacent to Ill. Rt. 43. Once removed, the stumps will be treated to stop regrowth. This action will result in the growth of stunted stands of oak and ash. Project was submitted for review on 8-28-98.

Walnut Point State Park

59384 - This project includes the installation of one set of the new standard play equipment along with the sidewalk necessary in order to make the equipment accessible for use by children with disabilities. The new equipment will replace the old unsafe equipment. Project was submitted for review on 10-22-98.

Havana Field Station

61854 - This project provides for the replacement and rehabilitation of the existing boat access facilities at the site. Development items include: removal of the existing concrete ramp and the construction of a new 2 lane ramp, installation of new floating docks, sidewalks, signage and striping. Project was submitted for review on 1-7-99.

Chain O' Lakes State Park

59381 - This project involves the rerouting of approximately 2,400 ft. of trail at the site. The rerouting is being done to eliminate two steep sections of existing trail that are maintenance problems and to change the view which currently overlooks a housing development. Project was submitted for review on 10-20-98.

Shelbyville Fish & Wildlife Area

52099 - This project involves the creation of three waterfowl areas using a terrace plow to build a levee system. Each unit will be flooded to a depth of two feet. Rocked spillways will be included on each embankment to easily pass flood events. Project was submitted for review on 3-24-98.

Fort Massac

60818 - An existing natural gas line serving Ft. Massac needs to be relocated from Rt. 45 ROW onto DNR property. The relocation is needed to accommodate demolition of an existing service building owned by the Department and to lessen tree disturbance along the highway. The new gas line will run from the 7th St. park entrance to the old service area near the park residence for a distance of approximately 650 ft. Project was submitted for review on 12-8-98.

Eldon Hazlet State Park

57274 - This project will construct a rent-a-tent type cabin (approx. 20' x 18') within the existing tent camping area of the Illini Campground. Construction items will include: 5' wide concrete sidewalk, concrete cabin slab, and approximately 50' of electrical service. Parking for camper use will be on existing camp pad # 84. Project was submitted for review on 8-18-98.

Eldon Hazlet State Park

59380 - This project provides for a high water boat ramp facility within the Apache Boat Access Area at the site. Development items include: new 1-lane ramp usable at lake elevations above 450.0, paved maneuvering area, parking lot renovations, site grading and drainage ditch renovations, riprap, floating boat docks, vault toilet replacement, and landscaping. Project was submitted for review on 10-19-98.
