ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS
COMPLETED

Project reviews completed from June 15 to July 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. Through the review process it was determined that environmental impacts have been kept to a minimum and mitigated as necessary and that they do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed. All of these projects are in compliance with the Endangered Species Protection Act, Natural Areas Preservation Act, Interagency Wetlands Policy Act and cultural resource statutes.

Woodford Co. State F&WA

67357 - This project involves the repair and restoration of a 150 ft. break in the levee along Richland Creek. Willow posts and saplings will be used in the protection of the levee when complete. Project was submitted for review on 6-10-99.

Fort Defiance State Park

67648 - This project involves the development of a 25 campsite campground northwest of the existing parking lot. The project will include a road from the parking lot to the campsites for access. Project was submitted for review on 6-18-99.

Hennepin Canal

67443 - Several sections of the levee along the canal between bridges 62 and 63 on the feeder canal and from bridge 20 to 22 on the west branch of the canal are to be repaired due to erosion. Work will include clearing of woody vegetation from the inside banks, restoring the banks to their original cross sections, and riprapping the area. The work will be accomplished by the Corps of Engineers. Project was submitted for review on 6-1199.

Wolf Creek State Park

67556 - Due to use the equestrian trail at the site has developed soft spots and is in need of rehabilitation. Work will consist of regrading drainage swales and applying a thin layer of gravel over the trail tread to harden the surface. An existing culvert along the trail will also be replaced. Project was submitted for review on 6-15-99.

Spitler Woods

. 61778 - This project will upgrade existing facilities within the site to be accessible for use by people with disabilities. The work will include providing surfaced walks to toilets, picnic shelters, water hydrants and other amenities. One set of vault toilets and existing play equipment will be replaced and the surface on Red Oak Ramble nature trail and two campsites will be improved. Project was submitted for review on12-29-98.

Beall Woods

67643 - This project will construct a three car gravel parking lot to support implementation of a deer management program to begin this fall at the site. Approximate size of the area is 1/20 of an acre and will not be located within the nature preserve boundaries. Project was submitted for review on 6-18-99.

Hennepin Canal

67444 - Under this project, IDOT will replace bridge 50 over the canal with a 12' x 12' concrete box culvert. At the same time a 10' x 8' trail culvert will be added on both sides of the canal for use by bicyclists and equestrians. Work will also include relocation of all existing buried and overhead utilities. Project was submitted for review on 6-11-99.

Ten Mile Creek

67642 - The city of McLeansboro will install and operate a cathodic pipeline system in a portion of an agricultural field along highway 14. The project will include the digging of a trench up to 4 feet deep in a direction perpendicular to the highway for a distance of about 400 feet. Project was submitted for review on 6-18-99.

Cache River

67646 - This Illinois State Police have requested to build a new radio tower approximately 50 feet from the old tower. Project was submitted for review on 6-18-99.

Lowden Miller State Forest

67354 - This project will install overhead electrical service from the Boy Scout Camp at Scout Road east to the equestrian area. Project was submitted for review on 6-10-99.

I & M Canal

63158 - This project will install two water pipeline crossings at the Canal. The directional bore type of construction will be utilized if rock is not encountered. The open cut method will be used if directional bore is impossible and the canal prism will be restored to its original contours. Project was submitted for review on 3-1-99.

Hennepin Canal

67442 - This project will replace the existing 4' diameter culvert carrying Ill. Route 84 over the Canal in Colona with a 12' diameter pipe. Also included in the project is the replacement of the existing 9' diameter trail culvert with a 9' x 10' concrete box culvert. All disturbed areas will be shaped and revegetated to match existing conditions. Project was submitted for review on 6-11-99.

Rock Cut State Park

66803 - The proposed project will modify the intersection of Hart Road with the new Perryville Road. The improvements entail lowering 100' of Hart Road to match the new road alignment. Grading of the back slopes will be required for safe site distance. Project was submitted for review on 5-20-99.

Rock Cut State Park

66802 - This proposed project will construct a bike trail connection between the Perryville Bike Path and the Willow Creek Trail. The area of distance will encompass a 15' wide corridor for 600'. Project was submitted for review on 5-20-99.

Moraine Hills State Park

63154 - This project is a wetland enhancement activity that will impact approximately one acre of highly degraded sedge meadow on the northeastern perimeter of the site. Activities will include removal of imported extraneous fill, filling of a small excavation with the sidecast soils present, aggressive herbicide treatment of the invasive, exotic reed canary grass, and investigation for the presence of farm drain tiles. Project was submitted for review on 2-26-99.

Beaver Dam State Park

66798 - This project will include the application of RR#3 rip rap along the shore line at the site to help stabilize the bank in front of the concession building and along the lake trail. Project was submitted for review on 5-17-99.

Mautino Fish & Wildlife Area

65905 - This project entails the construction of a wetland mitigation site near Buda a mitigation for the trail project at the canal. The site is a degraded old field that is being overtaken by low quality woody and herbaceous vegetation. Project was submitted for review on 4-29-99.

Donnelley DePue Fish & Wildlife Area

66804 - This proposed project will purchase and install a self contained sewage treatment plant to replace the failed septic system at the site residence. The new plant will measure 10' x 10' x 5' and be placed 10' from the residence. Project was submitted for review on 5-20-99.

Randolph County

67645 - This project provides for the replacement of existing vault toilet buildings at the site. Development items include the construction of four new double unit buildings, concrete sidewalk to each toilet, the demolition and removal of four existing buildings, site grading and drainage improvements, top soil placement, and seeding and mulching of all disturbed areas. Project was submitted for review on 6-18-99.
