ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEWS
COMPLETED

Project reviews completed from June 15 to July 15 are listed below. These projects have been screened through the internal environmental review process for potential impacts on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural and archaeological resources etc. These projects do not meet the criteria for significant actions as defined in the environmental review process and may proceed.

Ten Mile Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area

55268 - Small ponds will be constructed at two locations within the site in an effort to control erosion and provide wildlife habitat. The material used for the dam will come from within the future water pool to provide sufficient depth to support fish populations. Project was submitted for review on 6-22-98.

Ten Mile Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area

55269 - Boat access ramps will be constructed at three locations on different strip mine lakes within the site. Slopes will be cut approximately 25' into the water for trailer access by vehicles. Parking areas to accommodate approximately 6 vehicles will also be constructed at each site and covered with rock. Project was submitted for review on 6-22-98.

Ten Mile Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area

55267 - Rip rap will be place on the shoreline of one of the strip mine lakes within the park to prevent erosion. Brush will be removed from the dam at two locations to prevent damage by tree roots. Project was submitted for review on 6-22-98.

Ten Mile Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area

55270 - Three stream crossings will be renovated at the site for agricultural field access. All sites will remove brush that has grown up within the crossings to allow machinery access and place rock on the surface to prevent erosion. One crossing will have the existing wooden bridge removed and replaced with a low water crossing. Project was submitted for review on 6-22-98.

Ten Mile Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area .

55266 - This project will create shallow water wetlands at 3 locations on strip mined land within the site. Borrow material will be excavated adjacent to the dam locations. PVC stop log water control structures will be installed to provide for moist soil plant management. The water will vary in depth up to 4'. Project was submitted for review on 6-22-98.

Dixon Springs State Park

55633 - This project will replace old and outdated play equipment within the park at the ballfield picnic area. The equipment and associated fall zone will be approximately 50' x 50' in size. Other improvements will eventually include parking and connecting sidewalks. No tree removal is anticipated with this project. Project was submitted for review on 7-1-98.

Dixon Springs State Park

55096 - Newly acquired parcels at Dixon Springs are in need of extensive renovation in order to recover an eastern hardwood forest composition. Clearing of some advanced old field trees, new cover planting of annual grasses, and tree seedling planting will be done. The disturbance is necessary to offset the effects of abusive livestock grazing and to expedite the regrowth of native hardwood trees. The objective is not to eliminate trees, but to replace them, and to develop a single block of native hardwood forest. Project was submitted for review on 6-16-98.

Walnut Point State Park

55265 - This project will install a new security light at the concession building parking lot, extend buried electrical service to the Pleasant View picnic shelter and upgrade the existing electric service connection to the concession. The work will involve approximately 400' of buried power cable and boring for an additional 100' to avoid disturbing existing facilities. Project was submitted for review on 6-19-98.

Walnut Point State Park

55264 - This project will provide for the construction of a new pole storage building adjacent to the existing service area at Walnut Point. The proposed building will be 30' x 60' and will have a gravel floor. Project was submitted for review on 6-19-98.

Lake Le Aqua Na

49774 - This project will replace 10 aged, wooden vault toilets at the site with 8 approved concrete block units. In conjunction with this replacement the project will provide an average of 30' of concrete walk per unit, the demolition of the old units, and the finishing and seeding of disturbed areas. Project was submitted for review on 1-6-98.

Kickapoo State Park

54658 - The IDOT is planning to rehabilitate and upgrade the I - 74 bridge over the Middle Fork River within the park. At the present time the bridge deck drains directly into the river which is on the national list of scenic rivers and contains many listed species. Under this project, the runoff from the bridge will be diverted to the east into Long Pond. This will provide better protection for the river in the event of a spill on the bridge and allow for a more thorough cleanup. Project was submitted for review on 6-4-98.

Apple River Canyon State Park

53346 - This project proposed to stabilize an eroding streambank along the South Fork Apple River within the park. The bank is currently undercutting and sloughing, which is threatening a fishing access/picnic area. The work will encompass the placing of rip rap along this section and allow the streambank to settle to a stable grade. Project was submitted for review on 4-21-98.
