Division responsibilities within the Office of Mines and Minerals are administered pursuant to various state Acts. These Acts are administered through Promulgated Rules and Regulations.   Abandoned Mined Land Reclamation  

 

 

The Abandoned Mined Lands and Water Reclamation Act (20 ILCS 1920) provides for the reclamation of lands and waters affected by coal mining which have been abandoned, and satisfies the requirements of federal law to obtain funds for reclamation of such lands and waters.

  Land Reclamation  

 

 

The Surface Coal Mining Land Conservation and Reclamation Act (225 ILCS 720) provides for the conservation and reclamation of lands affected by coal mining operations after February 1, 1983.

The Surface Mined-Land Conservation and Reclamation Act (225 ILCS 715) established control of environmental impacts for coal mining activites for operations prior to February 1, 1983.

The Coal Mining Act (225 ILCS 705) governs the working conditions and atmospheres in the state's underground and surface mines to ensure the health and safety of thousands of workers in the mining industry.

The Illinois Explosives Act (225 ILCS 210) governs the storage, use, acquisition, possession, disposal, and transfer of explosive materials.


The Fluorspar and Underground Limestone Mines Act (225 ILCS 710) governs the operations of mining of minerals in Illinois.

The Surface Mined-Land Conservation and Reclamation Act (225 ILCS 715) provides for the conservation and reclamation of lands affected by aggregate (non-coal) mining as well as the control of environmental impacts from blasting, training, examination, and licensing of blasting supervisors.

  Oil and Gas  

 

 

The Illinois Oil and Gas Act (225 ILCS 725) provides for the conservation of oil and gas resurces throught the protection of correlative rights, proper well spacing, integration and aunitization of mineral interests; and for the regulation of the dirlling, contruction, operation, and plugging of oil and gas production wiells, Class II Injection wells, and gas storgae wells; the operation and maintenance of oil production facilities; the permitting of mineral and structure test holes and mining related groundwater monitoring wells; and the handling, transportation and disposal of oilfield wastes.

The Oil and Gas Wells on Public Lands Act (5 ILCS 615) establishes the administrative procedures for the leasing of state owned lands for oil and gas development.
