Volunteer Opportunities
Staff with the Illinois & Michigan Canal State Trail are always
on the lookout for new volunteers. If you have a few hours a week,
a few hours a month, or even just a couple of hours here and there
that you would like to volunteer, we would love to meet you. Examples
of volunteer opportunities include assisting with educational
programs, guided nature and historical tours, staffing information
centers, answering questions and handing out literature to the
visiting public, or participating with special events along the
canal. Maintenance of the parks along the trail and the trail
itself open up even more possibilities. Opportunities are limited
only by your imagination.
 Canallers & Co. is a unique volunteer
group that performs first person re-enactments within canal corridor.
Presentations reveal the pathos and passion of the lives that intimately
intersected every change along the Illinois & Michigan Canal. From fur
trade times through the first ghost towns and boomtowns and the transitions
that foreshadowed a new century. To learn more about Canallers & Co. or

Adopt-A-Trail
 The Illinois & Michigan Canal State Trail Adopt-A-Trail
program is doing extremely well and continues to grow in membership. Currently,
there are fourteen groups participating in the program. On behalf of the Illinois
Department of Natural Resources and the Illinois and Michigan Canal State Trail,
we would like to extend our most sincere gratitude and appreciation to each
of these groups. They have done an outstanding job maintaining their areas,
keeping it free of litter and debris. Most of the groups participate largely
to provide litter control, however, some are involved to handle the primary
mowing responsibilities of an area.
