LOCATION: The Kickapoo State Recreation Area (KSRA) is located 1 mile east of Oakwood in central Vermilion County.

The KSRA is characterized by major habitat areas consisting of forest (70%); grassland (14%); shrubs (10%) and cropland (6%).

SITE REGULATIONS:
  1. Free site Hunting Permits (windshield cards) are required for species as noted. These are available online at www.dnr.illinois.gov. Navigate to "hunting/trapping: and then "public hunting areas" to print these permits. Hunters will be required to return to this website prior to February 15th each year to record harvest information. Failure to submit data will result in loss of hunting privileges for the following year.
  2. Hunting is restricted to those portions of the area posted as open to hunting.
  3. The hunting areas will be closed to all other activities during the firearm deer season.
  4. Shotgun, muzzleloader, and handguns are allowed during the firearm deer season. All State regulations apply. Consult the Digest of Hunting and Trapping Regulations for caliber and usage restrictions. Authorized night hunters may use .22 caliber rimfire rifles in pursuit of furbearers.
  5. Trapping is permitted on designated areas.
  6. It is illegal to construct or use any tree stand using nails, screws or any device which pierces or cuts the bark of the tree on which it is installed. Hunters must remove tree stands daily. Free site permit number must be attached to the treestand. The number must be visible from the ground.
  7. Hunters engaged in quail, rabbit, pheasant, and woodcock hunting must wear a cap and upper outer garment of solid blaze orange (at least 400 square inches).
  8. Dove hunting statewide hours apply. Free permit is required. Shot size 7 1/2, 8 or 9.
  9. Coyote hunting season coincides with Statewide Fox Season. Hours coincide with Statewide regulations.
  10. Squirrel hunting season is first Tuesday after Labor Day through close of season.
  11. All other hunting is closed during the firearm deer season.
