2012 - 2013 Season

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is responsible for providing outdoor recreation opportunities for the residents of this state. The use of wildlife populations, whether it be for hunting or observation, is one aspect of this role. This Hunting Fact Sheet is provided to insure that regulations governing the use of our wildlife resources are available and understood. In addition, it is useful in acquainting visitors with common species and habitats on the area. In all cases, ask site personnel about additional rules, regulations and site information.

LOCATION: Sangchris Lake State Park (SLSP) is located eleven miles southeast of Rochester, Illinois, in Sangamon and Christian Counties.

DESCRIPTION: Sangchris Lake State Park is characterized by relatively flat uplands and rolling bottomlands. A mosaic of timber, agricultural crops, grassy savanna-like areas and water provide a great diversity of habitat.

Ducks/Geese (Youth Hunt)	(to be announced)	Closes at 1 pm	Lake blind sites allocated by daily drawing.
Ducks/Geese	Statewide	Closes at 1 pm (except last 3 days of Canada Goose season have statewide hours)	Lake and goose blind sites allocated by a daily drawing. WATERFOWL REGULATIONS
Doves	Sept. 1-5	Noon - 5:00 PM	Permit required; hunters must check in at site office between 9:00 am and 11:00 am; Hunters must check out at hunter check stations; hunters must hunt from 10 ft of IDNR marked stake; non-toxic shot required.
Doves	Sept. 6 - the 3rd Sunday in Sept.	Statewide Regulations - check with site office.	Hunters must hunt from within 10 ft. of a DNR-marked stake; non-toxic shot required. Hunter must sign in and out at the hunter checks stations.
Dove (Youth Hunt)	1^st Sat. Sept.	Noon-5 pm	Permit required; (see above).
Deer (Archery)	Statewide	Statewide (open during 1st firearm deer season)	Free Site Hunting Permits (windshield cards) are required. ** Only antlerless deer and bucks with 4 or more points on one antler may be harvested. Must harvest an antlerless deer on site before hunter can harvest an antlered deer.
Deer (Muzzleloader)	2nd Firearm Season	Special hours; check with site	Doe/antlerless only. Permit required, permits filled by drawing through IDNR permit office.
Pheasant (Youth Hunt)	1 day (to be announced)	11am - 4 pm	Permit required; procedures to be announced.
Pheasant/Rabbit/Quail (Adult Hunt)	Wed.’s & Sat.’s in Nov. & Dec. after opening day of upland (except firearm seasons & 12/24 and 12/25)	11 am-sunset	Free Upland Game Permit Application must be submitted online for a lottery drawing to be held in August. The application is available at www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/uplandgame. Hunters will be required to return their harvest card prior to February 15th each year. Failure to submit card will result in loss of hunting privileges for the following year. Permit holders may bring up to three hunting partners.
Squirrel	Day following Labor Day through Sept. 30	Statewide	Hunters must sign in/out at hunter check stations.
Turkey	Spring	Statewide	Permit required; 2 permits issued per season.
Turkey Archery	Fall	Statewide	Free Site Hunting Permits (windshield cards) are required **
Furbearer Trapping	Special season	Statewide	Permit required; Drawing to be held at the site office in October. Date will be publicly announced. One zone available.
Coyote/Fox	Special season (Check with site)	Special hours (Check with site)	Permit required; hunters must report harvest. Free Site Hunting Permits (windshield cards) are required **

* Subimpoundment blinds allocated through Springfield permit office for Sundays and Tuesdays; Thursday's subimpoundment blinds allocated at the daily draw.

** Windshield cards are available online at www.dnr.illinois.gov. Navigate to "Hunting/Trapping" and then "Public Hunting Areas" to print these permits. Hunters will be required to return to this website prior to February 15th each year to record harvest information. Failure to submit data will result in loss of hunting privileges for the following year.
