Kidd Lake State Natural Area Hunter Fact Sheet

Kidd Lake State Natural Area (KLSNA) provides limited hunting opportunities. Bow hunters who are up to a challenge are likely to encounter deer. Waterfowl hunting is allowed before and after the regular fall duck and Canada goose seasons. Nearby Fults Hill Prairie Nature Preserve is open for hiking and observing wildlife only.

LOCATION: 4 miles N of Prairie du Rocher on Bluff Road

KLSNA is located in the Mississippi River bottoms in southwestern Illinois. The original Kidd Lake was a shallow body of water which was then partly drained and is now being farmed. The remnants of the lake contain a thick stand of bulrush, cattail, and smartweed. Willows are found in the drier portions of the marsh and a few small ponds of open water occur in the area.

1. All hunting is by shotgun or bow and arrow only.
2. All hunters must sign in and check out, reporting their harvest each day following hunting.
3. No hunting is permitted in posted areas and within 100 yards of residences.
4. Construction or use of any tree stand using nails, screws, or wire or any device which pierces or cuts the bark of the tree on which it is installed is unlawful. Any tree stand (portable and one per hunter) can be left unattended overnight September 15 - January 31, and must be legibly marked with the owner's name, address, and telephone number.
