Crawford County State Fish and Wildlife Area is located two miles west and one mile south of Hutsonville, and seven miles north of Robinson, Illinois.

The area is comprised of 1,129 total acres, with 1,100 huntable acres. Being roughly bisected from east to west by Huston Creek, the area is generally rolling. The area along the south side of the creek is more steeply rolling and forms a bluff. About 100 acres of bottomland are located adjacent to the creek, mostly on the north side of the stream. Some open land is incorporated into a tenant program to improve wildlife habitat and insure abundant, good quality grain foods for game species and other wildlife. The timbered areas are a high quality, mature oak-hickory type. 

Hunting

Available game species include squirrel, deer, dove, woodcock, quail, furbearers, rabbit, and common snipe. Check at the Area Headquarters with the local Conservation Police Officer for seasons, bag limits, etc. Hunter Fact Sheet

Facilities

Nine ponds, ranging from ½ to two acres, may be found on the area. Fishing is permitted with pole and line only. Trot lines, throw lines, limb lines, and jugs will not be permitted. The ponds have largemouth bass, bluegill, redear, and channel catfish.

A picnic area is available on a first-come basis. The area has a shelter, picnic tables and campstoves.

Natural Areas

Approximately 75 acres on the northeast side have been declared a natural area by the Natural Areas Section of the Department of Natural Resources. This area represents a southern bottomland forest community near the northern limits of its occurrence in the state. A large number of different types of ferns, wildflowers, and trees are represented here. This area is open to hunting and nature studies. However, no wildflowers, plants, or trees may be picked or disturbed.

Directions

To reach Crawford County State Fish & Wildlife Area traveling from the north on I-70, turn south on Rt 1, proceed south 21 miles, turn right (west) on Eaton Road, go 1 mile to the site office on the left side of the blacktop. Traveling from the south from US Rt. 50 turn north on IL Rt. 1, proceed north 26 miles, turn left (west) on Eaton Road, go 1 mile to the site office on the left side of the blacktop.

• While groups of 25 or more are welcome and encouraged to use the park's facilities, they are required to register in advance with the site office to avoid crowding or scheduling conflicts.
• At least one responsible adult must accompany each group of 15 minors.
• Pets must be kept on leashes at all times.
• Actions by nature can result in closed roads and other facilities. Please call ahead to the park office before you make your trip.
