Current Closures of DNR Sites or Areas:

 

Northwest

  • Anderson Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area – The entire campground is closed due to flooding conditions. 
  • Big River - Lower campground is closed - 15 camp sites - due to June 08 flood. 
    -Gladstone Lake - Boat access to the Lake is closed, however, fishing is allowed, access road on west side remains closed.  Water has not receded enough to open boat ramp or improve access road.
    -Henderson Creek Access Area - Road washed out from earlier heavy rain fall this spring.  Boat ramp is closed until road is repaired.
  • Henderson County - Gladstone Lake, also known as Henderson County, is partially open.  Facilities that are available: picnic shelter, privies, water, and a partially opened campground (approximately 10 campsites available), and shoreline fishing. Please call Big River State Forest prior to visiting Gladstone Lake - 309/374-2496.
  • Henderson Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area – Closed due to flooding
  • Henderson Creek Access Area (Lock and Dam 18) – is closed due to flooding
  • Hennepin
    -New Closure – On the eastern Section, Bridge 4 to Lock 3.  Severe damage was sustained on both north and south levees in numerous areas of this 5.6 mile section, making them impassable and unsafe for trail users.   On the western section, Lock 26 to Interstate 80.  This section has been closed and will remain so due to flooding.
    -The entire Lock 21 use area will be closed beginning Monday, June 17th through June 21, 2013 due to a road enhancement project. 
  • Illini - River Meadows, Ancient Oaks, Wildcat Bog day use areas closed.  Sunrise Council, a CCC shelter, is closed indefinitely. Please call before visiting the park.
  • Illini State Park – River Meadows, Ancient Oaks, Wildcat Bog day use areas closed.  Sunrise Council, a CCC shelter, is closed indefinitely.  Please call before visiting the park.    
  • Matthiessen State Park – For current trail and facility closures, please call the Starved Rock State Park office between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm daily.
  • Pekin Lake - is closed to all vehicle access due to road deterioration, walk-in access is allowed.
  • Powerton Lake – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has been informed by Powerton Lake owner Midwest Generation that due to record high water levels and flooding along the Illinois River the current levee tree removal project needs to be extended.  Midwest Generation has asked that Powerton Lake be closed to all public access until further notice.
  • Rice Lake – campground is closed due to flooding.
  • Rock Island Trail – The Trail is closed to all traffic from Wyoming (Mile 20) to the Spoon River Bridge (Mile 22) and from Mile 22.75 to Mile 23.5. Both closed areas are between Wyoming and Toulon. The Trail is open from Wyoming to Alta.
  • Spring Lake - The south lane of the causeway bridge has been closed to vehicular traffic until further notice.
  • Starved Rock State Park – For current trail and facility closures, please call the Starved Rock State Park office between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm daily.
  • Woodford - closed due to flooding.


 

Northeast

  • Des Plaines State Fish & Wildlife Area - The entire "Class C" campground will be closed for the 2013 season.
  • Gebhard Woods - the campground is closed due to flooding.
  • Goose Lake Prairie – The Goose Lake Prairie Visitor Center may be closed on weekends due to staffing, please call to verify closures. The boat ramps open 6:00 a.m.-sunset, weather permitting.  The bank fishing opens 6:30 a.m.-sunset.  Heidecke Lake does not have boat rentals or a bait shop.
  • Kankakee River - the bike trail is closed from Davis Creek to Potawatomi Campground. The boat launch at Area 9 is closed. Some of the restrooms may be closed due to maintenance issues. The main park closes at 8 pm.

 

East-Central

 

  • Clinton Lake State Recreation Area –  The shower building in the campground is now open for the season.  The fish cleaning station at Weldon Access area has been permanently closed due to damage from vandalism. North Fork  fish cleaning station is temporarily closed for repairs., however Mascoutin (main park) fish cleaning station is open for use.
  • Eagle Creek State Park - The Fish Cleaning Station is repaired and now open for use.   The Army Corps has re-opened the North end of Illini Trail for Hikers  Camping and showers are now open for the season.  Eagle Creek has opened the High Water Boat Ramp due to rising lake levels.  The walkway dock is closed pending repairs.
  • Fox Ridge State Park – North and South Canoe Launch areas are open.  Horse trail access are now open. Family Trail is temporarily closed with a bridge out on Acorn Avenue affecting 1/2 mile of trail and parts of the playground structure at Possum Holler is temporarily closed. Due to damage from a fallen tree, the Monkey Bars and Hand Walk Bar are closed on the fitness trail until further notice. Shower facilities are now open for the camping season.
  • Hidden Springs –  Big Tree Trail is closed temporarily due to a large fallen tree from storm damage. Oak Ridge Hiking trail is closed indefinitely due to a bridge washout.
  • Kickapoo - Showers are open and water is on throughout the park.  Main Pavilion and shelters are open for the season.
  • Lincoln Trail Homestead – The day use access road is now open for the season.
  • Middle Fork SFWA – Horse Trails are now open.  The water is on and the Equestrian Campground is open for the season.
  • Moraine View State Recreation Area – The beach is open for the season. The “Timber Trails Horseback Trail Riding” concession is under new management and now open Wednesday through Sunday.  Old Orchard group camp is closed indefinitely
  • Shelbyville – The following access areas are closed at this time due to high lake levels from heavy rains and soft road conditions; Bethany Boat Ramp, County Pit Access,  Denham Pit Access, Jonathan Creek Access and Strickland Boat Access.   Areas open and/or with limited access are Cook’s Bridge Access, Hand Trap Range Road, Fishhook Access Road, McGee Waterfowl Area.
  • Spitler Woods - Site is open to the public for trail access and shelter reservations.  Water is on and the restroom facilities are open for the season.
  • Walnut Point State Park –  Concession is currently closed,  all campground facilities are open for the season.
  • Weldon Springs State Park -  The concession/restaurant is now open for the season. The Black Locust Group Camp is closed until further notice. Beaver Dam Trail is currently closed due to a foot bridge wash out. The shower building is now open for the season.
  • Wolf Creek State Park -  Wolf Creek Horse Concession is closed at this time.  The Beach is open for the season. All courtesy boat docks are now available.  Sand Creek campground  and Lick Creek campground and shower facilities are now open.  The horse trail and horse camp are now open for the season. Wolf Creek has opened the High Water Boat Ramp due to rising lake levels.

     

     

West Central

  • Beaver Dam State Park – The Concession area is open.   No bait shop will be available this year.  Hours are Monday thru Friday 11am – 7pm.  Saturday and Sunday will open at 8am – 8pm.  Until further notice, the Observation Tower at the Marsh is closed due to structural problems.
  • Carlyle Lake WMA – all parking lots and boat ramps are open; however, access into some areas of the site remain hampered by high lake/ river levels.
  • Eldon Hazlet - The Peppenhorst Boat access area is closed to the public due to flooding. 
  • Fall Creek Rest Area - is closed to all vehicle access.  Visitors are reminded to take all litter with them.
  • Illinois Caverns - Site is closed due to White Nose Syndrome. Closures will be reviewed quarterly. Complete details has been listed in separate closure press release.
  • Jim Edgar Panther Creek - The office will be closed on Sunday and Mondays until further notice.  Please call the office for trail updates (217-452-7741).   
  • Kaskaskia River Area hours at Baldwin Lake are 6am – 9pm.  Due to major flooding, the following boat ramps are closed: White Swan, Joe’s Landing New Athens Marina, Becks Landing, Kaskaskia River Lock and Dam and Evansville.  The Wooduck marina and Fayetteville boat ramps are currently open.     
  • Mississippi River Area the site is open with access by boat only.
  • Peabody River King –– the site office will be closed until further notice
  • Pere Marquette State Park – The equestrian stables are open at “Reservations Only” until Route 100 re-opens..  Hwy 100 is closed North and South of the Park.  The park remains open with access from Route 3 to Otterville Road to Powerline Road.  The Rappelling Area as well as the Sam Vadalabene Bike Trail (from the park to Grafton) is closed due to flooding.  The steps at the Cross Monument are closed due to theft of iron fence/ safety rail.  Public has access to the base along the bike trail. 
  • Sanganois – the main access road is closed due to water levels; however, the site is open to boat access.
  • Sangchris Lake - West boat ramp remains closed due to pending construction with an approximate completion date of September 1, 2013. 
  • Sand Ridge State Forest – The drinking water source for the Oak Campgrounds is temporarily closed due to a malfunction in the hand pump.  The Mud Turtle Parking Lot, well and pit-vault privies are closed.
  • Siloam Springs – temporary repairs have been made to the roadway; therefore, the Old Siloam Picnic area will re-open on Firday, June 14th.   All equestrian trails are closed due to damage from flood water; estimated re-opening is end of June.  The drink and water  hydrants are on.  Hickory Hill campground is closed; however, ample room is available in Pine Grove and Oak Ridge campgrounds. 

 

South

  • Beall Woods State Park –Tuliptree is open. White Oak bottomland is closed due to flood debris. Schneck, Sweet Gum and Ridgeway are closed due to flood debris.
  •  Fort Massac –The 1802 American Fort will be closed to the public until further notice. December 12th, the floating boat dock at the park riverfront will be put into storage until spring 2013 due to rising flood waters.
  • Giant City State Park - The shower building in the Equestrian campground is closed.
  • Golconda Marina - Rauchfuss Hill is currently closed.
  • Horseshoe Lake – The Lake is open for fishing, with 4 boat ramps operational however only trolling motors are allowed on the lake until March 1st.
  • Newton Lake – The small day use area North of the park shop is closed indefinitely due to storm damage. The mountain bike trail is closed indefinitely due to washed out areas.

During hunting season, many sites are closed or partially closed to the public.   Public should contact the site directly for closure updates and/or winter hours before going to site.
