Current Closures of DNR Sites or Areas:

Northwest

  • Argyle Lake - A two mile portion of road around the back of the lake is closed due to a heavy rain event in 2007 - Class D campground (31 sites) is not accessible due to the road closure.
  • Argyle Lake –Class B and C campsites are closed indefinitely due to road closure.  Reservations are being redirected to the Class A campground.  Class C camping is available in equestrian area.
  • Argyle Lake - Argyle Lake State Park road project began Monday, July 11, 2011.  Day use areas and Twisted Oak Campground will remain open to the public throughout the construction process that is expected to last through the fall of 2012.  The Twin Oaks and Big Oaks Campgrounds will remain closed indefinitely to the public due to high volumes of large truck traffic and hazardous situations.  Questions and concerns can be directed to the park office at (309) 776-3422.
  • Big River - Lower campground is closed - 15 camp sites - due to June 08 flood. 
    -Gladstone Lake - Boat access to the Lake is closed, however, fishing is allowed, access road on west side remains closed.  Water has not receded enough to open boat ramp or improve access road.
    -Henderson Creek Access Area - Road washed out from earlier heavy rain fall this spring.  Boat ramp is closed until road is repaired.
  • Donnelley - The Fox Run Area is closed.
  • Henderson County - Gladstone Lake, also known as Henderson County, is partially open.  Facilities that are available: picnic shelter, privies, water, and a partially opened campground (approximately 10 campsites available), and shoreline fishing. Please call Big River State Forest prior to visiting Gladstone Lake - 309/374-2496.
  • Hennepin
    -East  End – Lock 3 to Bridge 3 (approximately 4 miles) remains closed  (Bridge 3 to Bridge 4 just reopened – a 1.3 mile stretch)
    -West End - Lock 26 to Interstate 80 (4.3 miles) is impassable and signed closed due to heavy rains and washouts.
  • Hennepin – Snowmobile trails are CLOSED.
  • Illini - River Meadows, Ancient Oaks, Wildcat Bog day use areas closed.  Sunrise Council, a CCC shelter, is closed indefinitely. Please call before visiting the park.
  • Lowden State Park – Shower building is closed for the 2011 season.  Some electrical campsites are available.
  • Mackinaw – the gates to Canoe access area and day use area number 1 are locked and will remain closed until further notice due to on-going vandalism and road surface damage due to freezing and thawing weather conditions.
  • Pekin Lake - is closed to all vehicle access due to road deterioration, walk-in access is allowed.
  • Prophetstown State Park – Campground is closed for the 2011 season.  Set to re-open May 1, 2012.
  • Shabbona – The campground is open as a Class B-E; the shower building is closed.  Campers will now self-register.
  • Spring Lake - The south lane of the causeway bridge has been closed to vehicular traffic until further notice.

Northeast

During hunting season, many sites are closed or partially closed to the public.   Public should contact the site directly or the regional office (847) 608-3100 x 2052 for closure updates and/or winter hours before going to site.

  • Buffalo Rock State Park - The I&M Canal Snowmobile trail is closed during the snowmobile season from the west footbridge in Utica to Buffalo Rock. The I&M Canal State Trail is closed west from the Buffalo Rock Access parking area to Campsite D  and 2.5 miles east of Utica due to washouts and safety issues. The Effigy Tumuli Area at Buffalo Rock SP and the proposed Archery Deer Hunting area are closed until further notice due to safety issues. A portion of River Bluff trail at Buffalo Rock State Park is closed due to the erosion of the stairway.
  • Des Plaines State Fish & Wildlife Area - The entire "Class C" campground will be closed for the 2011 season.
  • Goose Lake Prairie State Park – Heidecke Lake is closed until the 2012 fishing season starts on Sunday, April 1, 2012.  The boat ramps open 6:00 a.m.-sunset, weather permitting.  The bank fishing opens 6:30 a.m.-sunset.  Heidecke Lake does not have boat rentals or a bait shop.
  • Illinois Beach State Park - IBSP South Unit remains closed due to severe summer storm damage (see below).

    Resort & Conference Center - Resort is open. The outside banquet tent has been repaired and is now functional. Pool will remain closed for an extended period.
    Illinois Beach (South Unit) - CLOSED - IDNR continues working on storm damage cleanup/threats to public safety.
    Illinois Beach (North Unit) - Beach is open with limited parking. Portions of the trail system are now open; some trails remain closed.

  • I&M Canal - The I&M Canal Snowmobile trail is closed during the snowmobile season from the west footbridge in Utica to Buffalo Rock
  • Kankakee River - The bike trail is open from Davis Creek to Chippewa campground and CLOSED at  Chippewa due to a tree that's been down since September that staff or Forester can't remove. Some of the restrooms may be closed due to maintenance issues. The concession stand is closed until further notice.

East-Central

  • East Central  State Park Campgrounds – Most sites in the East Central Area winterize water lines and shower buildings by November 1st each year.  Please contact a site before visiting to determine if these amenities are available.
  • Clinton Lake State Recreation Area - Lane and Peninsula Day Use areas are closed as well as West Side Shelter until further notice. The fish cleaning station at Weldon Access area has been permanently closed due to damage from vandalism.  Water lines and shower buildings are winterized for the season.
  • Eagle Creek State Park - All courtesy docks at Wolf and Eagle Creeks are closed awaiting repairs due to flood damage. Boaters should use caution in this area. The Army Corps has temporarily closed the Illini Trail due to flood damage. All Eagle Creek campgrounds are closed from December 5th until Jan 3rd due to hunting.  After Jan. 3rd - Sections of the main campground are open, however showers are closed until April 1st .  Group and tent camping remain closed until April 1st.
  • Fox Ridge State Park – The South Canoe Launch is open. The North Canoe and Horse trail access are now open.  Family Trail is temporarily closed with a bridge out on Acorn Avenue effecting 1/2 mile of trail and parts of the playground structure at Possum Holler is temporarily closed.  Due to damage from a fallen tree, the Monkey Bars and Hand Walk Bar are closed on the fitness trail until further notice. horse trail is now closed.  It will reopen April 16.
  • Hidden Springs – Big Tree Trail is closed temporarily due to a large fallen tree from storm damage and wet conditions. Oak Ridge Hiking trail is closed indefinitely due to a bridge washout.
  • Kickapoo State Park - Kickapoo has one camping loop and shower building open year round. 
  • Middle Fork SFWA – The Equestrian Campground is closed for the season.   The entrance road is closed for the season, equestrian campers may use the office parking area.
  • Lincoln Trail State Park – Beech Tree Trail is closed due to a fallen tree that caused damage to the stairway.
  • Moraine View State Recreation Area - Old Orchard group camp is closed indefinitely. The dump station along the entrance road, the horse trails, horse campground & Tall Timber backpack trail are all closed for the “put and take” pheasant hunting season starting November 1st.  The dump station and horse camp will reopen approximately April 1st.  Tall Timber will open approximately Feb. 15th.  The horse trails will re-open approximately Jan. 16th, depending on snow cover. The snowmobile trails are closed indefinitely.
  • Shelbyville -Bethany Boat Ramp (intermittently), Elder Pond and the Archery Range are closed for ADA Construction Project until further notice. Hand Trap Range Road is closed due to freezing and thawing conditions.   Jonathan Creek, Fish Hook, McGee Waterfowl Areas are open.
  • Walnut Point State Park – Concession and campground shower building  are closed along with Whippoorwill, Cardinal and Breezy Point Drives for the Winter Season.
  • Weldon Springs State Park - The Black Locust Group Camp is closed until further notice. Beaver Dam Trail is currently closed due to a foot bridge wash out. Concession is closed.
  • Wolf Creek State Park - All courtesy docks at Wolf and Eagle Creeks are closed awaiting repairs due to flood damage. Boaters should use caution in this area.  All Wolf Creek campgrounds are closed from December 5th until Jan 3rd due to hunting.  After Jan. 3rd - Sections of the main campground are open, however showers are closed until April 1st .  Group, tent and the Horse Camp at Wolf Creek remain closed until April 1st.  The Equestrian Trail is closed for Season

West Central

  • Beaver Dam State Park – the Concession is closed for the season. 
  • Eldon Hazlet - the north 100 camp sites are closed due to the site’s Controlled Pheasant season.  The fish cleaning stations are closed due to maintenance.  They will re-open in the spring.
  • Fall Creek Rest Area -is closed to all vehicle access
  • Horseshoe Lake (Madison Cty) - the Bend Road area continues to be closed to vehicle traffic due to bad road conditions and lack of staff to clean and mow the area.  Please call the office for future updates on the road conditions.
  • Illinois Caverns - Site is closed due to White Nose Syndrome. Closures will be reviewed quarterly. Complete details has been listed in separate closure press release.
  • Jim Edgar Panther Creek -The office will be closed on Sunday and Monday’s until further notice. Please call the office for trail updates (217-452-7741).  Equestrian and mountain bike trails are closed for the season to re-open on April 16th (weather permitting).
  • Kaskaskia River Area –hours at Baldwin Lake are 8am – 4pm until February 16th when they will be 6am – 7pm. 
  • Pere Marquette State Park - the equestrian trails east of Graham Hollow Road are closed until February 15th, 2012 to accommodate hunting in the area.
  • Sangchris Lake -- the fish cleaning station has been closed for the winter to avoid plumbing problems.  West boat ramp remains closed due to low water levels.  Most likely, it will be closed for the foreseeable future.  The water in Deer Run campground has been shut off for the season.  Campgrounds are now closed until April 1, 2012.  The shower building in Hickory Point is closed for the season.  Water is available throughout the campground and pit privies are also available
  • Sand Ridge State Forest –The equestrian trails are now open. They will open and close due to soil conditions caused by weather cycles of freezing/thawing.  Please contact the site office at 309-597-2212 for updates.
  • Siloam Springs – The upper area look out remains closed.  Shelter #4 in Old Siloam remains closed.  Please observe signage.  Seasonal closures include: Hickory Hill campground, the equestrian campground and trails, the Main Shelter house toilet facilities, water hydrants in the all day use areas and Oak Ridge campground,  the Old Siloam picnic area, the car top boat launch area on the lake and the campground shower building as well as the Kid’s fishing pond.  The park office will be closed on weekends during February and March 2012.

South

  • Beall Woods State Park – Tuliptree and White Oak ares open and clear, Ridgway is closed due to high water, Schneck and Sweet Gum trails are all closed due to muddy conditions and high water.
  • Cave in Rock - The shower house in camp ground and toilets on bluff in shelter areas are closed for the winter and will reopen around April 1st.
  • Fort Massac –The 1802 American Fort will be closed to the public until further notice.
  • Giant City State Park - The shower building in the Equestrian campground will be closed due to lack of funds and use.  The shower building in the main campground closed November 21 and will re-open April 1, 2012. Giant City Lodge and Cabins closed to the general public on December 5th and will re-open February 3, 2012.
  • Horseshoe Lake – The Lake is open for fishing, with 4 boat ramps operational however only trolling motors are allowed on the lake until March 1st. The west side campground is now open, however the east side remains closed.
  • Lake Murphysboro - The shower building has been closed and the water turned off to our class A campgrounds and sewage dump station. These facilities will re-open about April 1st. The class A sites will now go to class B/E sites with the corresponding price change, and the Class B sites will become Class C sites with a price change.
  • Mermet Lake - Mermet lake is now closed down for waterfowl refuge. The road around the lake is closed to traffic and the lake is closed to fishing. It is open for deer archery only.  Mermet Swamp Nature Preserve trail is still closed but expect to possibly have open within the next sixty days.
  • Newton Lake – The small day use area North of the park shop is closed indefinitely due to storm damage. The mountain bike trail is closed indefinitely due to washed out areas.
  • Ramsey Lake State Park – The shower building, Hickory Grove and the Group camping areas are closed for the winter. The Equestrian trail and campground are also closed for the winter.
  • Stephen A Forbes - Restaurant and Marina closed until April 1st. Equestrian Camp and Trails Closed until May 1st. Shower Building in campground closed until April 1st. Camp ground open with Class B/E and C sites.
  • Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park –  The primitive campground is closed for winter and is projected to reopen the weekend of March 30, 2012.  The Hickman's Point loop (campsites 32 thru 62) in the Class A campground will remain open throughout the winter as well as the main heated shower building.  Trailer dump stations remains open in Class A campground. The wand has water turned off to prevent freezing. We will begin to open additional loops of Class A campgrounds in March 2012 as weather improves and usage begins to increase.
