LOCATION: Eight miles northwest of Windsor, between Findlay and Bruce on County Highway 3.

DESCRIPTION OF THE AREA:

The area lies along the east edge of Lake Shelbyville and is characterized by wooded ravines, prairie restorations and native grass plantings, and wildlife food/cover plots.

Hunters must harvest 1 anterless deer before buck. One Buck per season, and at least 4 points on one antler.

Free Site Hunting Permits (windshield cards) are required for species a noted. These are available online at www.dnr.illinois.gov. Navigate to "Hunting/Trapping" and then "public hunting areas" to print these permits. Hunters will be required to return to this website prior to February 15th each year to record harvest information. For Free Upland Game Permit areas, a Free Upland Game Permit Application must be submitted online for a lottery drawing to be held in August. The application is available at www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/uplandgame. Hunters will be required to return their harvest card prior to February 15th each year. Failure to submit data/card will result in loss of hunting privileges for the following year.

SITE REGULATIONS:

  1. Only portions of the park are open to hunting. Check with site personnel to determine the exact boundaries of the area open to hunting.
  2. No pistols or airguns are permitted. Twenty-two (.22) caliber rimfire rifles are allowed for Raccoon hunting only.
  3. Firearm deer hunters must have a valid Wolf Creek State Park deer permit, issued through the statewide lottery.
  4. Turkey hunters must have a valid Wolf Creek State Park permit, issued through the statewide lottery.
  5. Hunting from permanent stands is prohibited. No nails, screw in foot pegs, or other piercing devices are allowed. Tree stands must be portable and removed daily.
  6. Shotgun, muzzleloader and handgun are allowed during the firearm deer season. All state regulations apply. Consult the Digest of Hunting and Trapping Regulations for caliber and usage restrictions
  7. Hunting will be permitted on the firest and second day of the statewide upland game season and on each subsequent Wednesday and Saturday in November and on each Thursday and Sunday in December, through December 24, except closed during the firearm deer seasons and open December 27 and 29.
