INTRODUCTION: The Department of Natural Resources is responsible for providing outdoor recreation opportunity for the residents of the State. Of particular concern is providing safe hunting areas on public lands throughout the State. This Hunter Fact Sheet contains information relating to waterfowl hunting at the Momence Wetlands. Some areas may only be accessible via the Kankakee River. The Kankakee River is one of the highest quality rivers in the entire state. The Kankakee River basin boasts a long tradition of hunting dating back to pre-settlement times. Low fall water conditions can make access very difficult.

DIRECTIONS: The Site Office is located 6 Miles west of Bourbonnais on Rt. 102 at the Kankakee River State Park Office. This site is located 3 miles east of the Indiana border along the Kankakee River.

GENERAL HUNTING REGULATIONS
All applicable regulations found in the Wildlife Code of 1971, Federal Regulations and Administrative Order 510 apply on this area. Special area regulations established under the authority provided in the above acts may be more restrictive and must be observed.

SITE REGULATIONS

1. There are six (6) boat blind sites available for waterfowl hunting. Two (2) are readily accessible via the main channel and four (4) are within potholes in the interior of the property. A drawing will be held annually to allocate these positions in conjunction with the Kankakee River Waterfowl blinds.
2. Waterfowl hunting is only allowed from anchored boat blinds from within 10 feet of designated locations.
3. No more than 3 persons shall occupy or use a portable boat blind on this site.
4. Each hunting party is required to hunt over a minimum of 12 decoys. The decoys must be picked up at the end of each days hunt.
5. The site will be closed to waterfowl hunting during the Firearm Deer Seasons.
6. Hunters successful in obtaining a blind through the drawing must register and obtain a free permit from District Wildlife Biologist prior to hunting. Hunters must return the permit and a record of their harvest and efforts by Feb. 15th after the close of the Central Canada Goose Season. Failure to do so will result in loss of hunting privileges the next hunting year at this site.
7. The site will be closed to all goose hunting that falls outside the regular Central Canada Goose Hunting Season.

OTHER SEASONS

1. There is no early Teal Season at this site.
2. There is no early Canada Goose Season at this site or Snow Goose Season beyond the close of the Central Canada Goose Season.
