Green Treefrog

Green Tree Frog

The green treefrog is one and a quarter to two and a quarter inches long and lives in the swamps, lakes and streams of southern Illinois. It breeds from mid-May to August in cypress swamps, floodplain sloughs and cattail marshes. These frogs occasionally visit windows at night where they hunt for insects attracted by light. A chorus of calling males sounds like the “chink” of cowbells, while a single individual sounds like a nasal “quonk, quonk, quonk.”
