PUBLIC
POLICY
Concerned citizens may show their support of existing or proposed
pro-wetland programs and legislation by notifying local, state,
and federal representatives about their opinions. Also, the state
of Illinois has recently completed the Illinois Wetland Conservation
Strategy in which the status of Illinois wetlands and the effectiveness
of the existing regulatory and non-regulatory programs were evaluated.
This strategy has identified several places where improvements may
be made to the existing protection systems. In the near future,
IDNR, in cooperation with other state and federal agencies, will
be facilitating the implementation of various recommendations and
suggestions contained in this document. If individuals or groups
would like to be involved in the implementation process they should
contact IDNR's Office of Resource Conservation and express their
interest.
