PUBLIC OUTREACH

Persons may choose to become involved in wetlands protection by influencing the attitudes and understandings of others about wetlands. One way they may do this is by keeping abreast of local wetland issues and becoming vocal in their community by speaking for the protection of these resources at appropriate venues. They may also give informative talks or presentations such as the one prepared in the attached materials. Professional educators may choose to improve the understanding future generations have of wetlands by taking advantage of programs available through workshops sponsored by IDNR, such as Project WET, Project WILD-Aquatic, or the State Museum's An Interdisciplinary Study of Illinois Wetlands Kit which contain curriculum and activity materials that focus on wetland habitats. Additional wetlands information may also be obtained through the USEPA nationwide wetlands hotline (1-800-832-7828).
